Searching for an image of my Hades, I came across this insanely androgynous beauty, model Andrej Pejic:
His androgynous look is so perfect, he almost doesn’t look human. Instead he calls to mind Storm Constantine’s Wraeththu.
Like Danila Polyakov and Bartek Borowiec, he’s frequently photographed in deliberately feminine attire, makeup, and poses.
I am loving this trend in male modeling. :D

He’s a big name in Australia, known as a “femiman”.
These are beautiful!
I love the different and original images and people you find for character inspiration!I admit I get stuck in some particular stereotypes. As a child of the seventies, I will always be in love with Christian Slater and Ricky Schroder! But although I frequently start with them, the actual character often goes off in a random direction. Hopefully, my readers would never know just how many of my MMCs start this way!
Watching Dancing With the Stars this season, I was drawn to the football player Hines Ward. He seems like a big, friendly, sweet guy! His skin tone suggest African-American, but he was born in Korea. Since my stories are set in a future human colony, I need my characters to be multi-racial. Beyond that even, so far removed from Earth, being from Sweden or Malaysia or Ireland should be all but unidentifiable.
I like stories where you can identify with a character as a PERSON, not necessarily as a man/woman/black person/white person/republican/democrat. There is so much more that we have in common than we have that is different.
I never have an actual person in mind when I write a character. (Except for Ola. Having her insist on looking like Rumer Willis before I’d even started writing her was a first for me.) I only started looking for images later to try to show my readers what I have in my head. I never expected to be able to find many pictures of real people that look like mine, though, because I tend toward the unusual, and often the androgynous. Little did I know, all I needed to do was start perusing male modeling images to find my otherwordly-looking lovelies. :)
Oh, and it also doesn’t hurt that I keep finding Slavic models. Since my celestial and infernal characters have ties with Russia, it’s icing on the cake. (And I don’t look for Slavs either, I just keep finding them. Except for the two Brazilians that popped up for Belphagor…he’s an interesting one, my naughty demon.)
